Water Fights – 18.08.2013 by Poppy Garrison

After a week of programme, including dress making, card making, gardening and painting, we reached Friday! It was also the first week in which I had participated in Jon’s gardening project. We visited the last plot in Vikumgama and dug about 11 holes and began to plant some chillies. Our gardening skills (if any) were put to shame by the women and her children who’s plot it was, she had planted about six holes before we had even finished digging! 32 degrees and everyone is boiling! Rassandeniya after school club was the perfect opportunity to cool down with a water fight! After the tedious task (by Laura) of filling up water balloons, the kids were let lose in a sort paintball game! After running out of our water bomb supply, the game quickly spiralled into an ‘attack the team’ with any water they could get their hands on! Buckets, bottles, jar, you name it, and they were filled with water! Even the Monks tried to join in, with one hurling a water bomb from the roof of the temple! Ollie, with his competitive manner, quickly retaliated by running up the stairs of the temple to the top level, but got out run when the Monk leapt onto the tiles roof! He struggled to admit defeat! It was a great way to end the week in high spirits!
