July 6th and 7th

We arrived at Colombo on Sunday 3rd July airport and received a very warm welcome from Bandula and had a very exciting journey to the Sarvodya Headquarters.

After two nights we made our way to Sabaragamuwa University where we are staying for the next six weeks, with lovely mountainous surroundings and welcoming people. On Thursday we visited the villages we are going to be teaching in; Pambhina, Puakgalawele and Ihalegalegema and were greeted with flowers and delicious local Sri Lankan food. On Friday the group began their first coaching sessions at the University which included; tennis, badminton, swimming, athletics and fitness. This was an enjoyable experience for the whole group and we are all looking forward to the progression that the Sri Lankan students will hopefully make over the next six weeks.

We spent our first Saturday being invited to open both the local community centre in Pambhina and the University cricket pitch which was a great privilege. The following day the University had arranged a day of local sightseeing including a visit to Diyaluma Falls (628ft) which was spectacular, we also tried some local fruit juices which was quite an experience!! Following this we visited Adisham House and Aislaby Tea Factory which both gave a great insight into Sri Lankan history.

We are thrilled to be in Sri Lanka with such friendly people and cannot wait to continue coaching in the forthcoming weeks 🙂 !
