Failed Risk Assessment – Day 1

After a conservative first night, Team Tourism met for breakfast to plan our first full day.  Our first meeting of the week was with 7 local hotel owners; a mixed bunch, some only interested in promoting their hotel, others raising bigger issues such as conflict with the fishermen regarding the cleanliness of the beach, difficulty in raising investment funds and a government who say all of the right things but seldom deliver…good topics to explore during the rest of the week.
In order to discover the specific issues, we need to visit their hotel. Also, it would be useful to visit large hotels in order to compare the relationship with the government and other issues. Our afternoon was relaxed, volley ball in the pool, until one team member sustained what can only be described as a laceration to her leg, caused by the jagged tiles on the poolside.  Our disaster response plan was enacted and after a trip to the clinic and a couple of stitches, we were back to continue our busy schedule.  We wrapped up the day with a lively evening, we all needed a drink after an eventful first day.
