Thursday 15th July by Claudia

Work and Play in MoraketiaraDirk, Oliver, Jagruti and I woke up quite early and went to the beach for a run and a dip.
We all really enjoy the workouts during the morning; they wake you up and make you fit for the day. After breakfast I went back to the beach and had the best time ever… Sitting under a boat during the rain and watching the massive waves is one of the most relaxing things to do. Whilst sitting under the boat I also prepared the afternoon lesson for grade 8 and 9 and after finishing that I went for a swim.
As usual the fishermen were waving and not happy about my idea; they say it is very dangerous and I shouldn’t go for a swim. I think they are right because the 4m waves are really smashing hard and if you have the wrong timing you risk getting lost in the waves for at least 2 minutes… Therefore usually we are just wading in the water, but the fishermen still don’t stop screaming.
So as we said before Moraketiara is one of the safest places you can be in, everybody keeps an eye on us and we are never alone. After sunset we can’t even go next door on our own!
Because of the sandflies it is unfortunately not recommendable to lie on the beach for a long time. First of all you think “oh they are just biting you but its not itching”. So you don’t mind that you have 50 bites (in the beginning they are just tiny red marks). But the horrible part is on the next night, and the day after, and the next night, and the day after that when they become huge and really itchy.
Everybody else relaxed at home, read their books or checked Emails at Ishan’s place – we are amazing customers! Oliver planned the following lesson and Jagruti worked on her research.
After lunch we taught Grade 8 and 9 how to give directions and we played direction games.
At 3pm we went to the CCF (Christians Child Fund) school, which opened just the Saturday before. We were special guests for the opening which was when we said we could do some english lessons. We started teaching weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for one and a half hours. Oliver is teaching the 8-14 years old pupils and I teach the 4-7 years old kids. We really enjoy these lessons. The lesson today was more spontaneous because we thought we would just talk about when and what to teach. Oliver did nearly the same lesson as he did in the Moraketiara school just 1 hour before and I did lots of songs: abc; hokey kokey; head, shoulder… and taught them the names of animals.
In the afternoon and evening we relaxed and prepared next day’s lessons.
