The Tech Monkeys

7 am. Walk on the beach with the girls (Dirk and Oli sleeping sound as babies, so thought it best not to disturb). This really is the most perfect way to start the day. A long leisurely stroll amongst swaying palm trees with the occassional running required as a result of being chased by dogs. We returned in time for a speedy shower and a swift breakfast before dashing to the temple pre-school where we were invited to teach. A more adorable sight could not be found than the expressions of bemusement on these 4 year olds’ faces as they watched five students from Durham touching their heads shoulders knees and toes whilst singing.

Next stop Moraketiara school to take a look at the computer rooms. After that a speedy lunch of rice and curry and back to school for our first class. We had a year ten class and we began with the teachers in our group, Oli and Claudia, introducing us and getting the children to introduce ourselves. We were all surprised at how good their English was and I particularly was impressed by how much they remembered from when I was here teaching them last year. We launched into a song very quickly and after 20 minutes practice were treated to a loud and joyful rendition of Michael Jackson´s We Are the World.

A relaxing evening sitting in the front yard playing games, getting our horoscope read and then finally going to our friend Ishan´s house, armed with snacks, to watch the Germany v Spain match. Returned home consoling a disappointed Claudia at 2 am and promptly fell asleep.
