Early doors – Mon 6th July by Katie

We are currently staying with the Sarvodaya Organisation, getting to know the project and the different units of the organisation. We have all had a jam packed day but it has been brilliant. We started the morning with a visit to the abandoned children unit where there were 22 babies up to the age of 3. It really was heartbreaking listening to some of the tragic stories of the children but it was also quite inspiring to see how much work the Sarvodaya Organisation are doing. We then went on to visit the teenage pregnant girl unit and were fortunate enough to meet some of the cutest kids. It was interesting to hear about the religious and political implications of teenage pregnancies.

Later, we went to the British Council for yet another feast and some great advice from the experts on where to visit and the support on offer.

We can’t wait for Tuesday when we will head south to ‘Matara’ where we will be staying for the next ten weeks. On Wednesday we will be attending the opening ceremony for our adopted village’s school…it should be great!
