20th August (written by Louise)

I spent today with 7 other members of the team at Gandarawatte. We sat with 10 pre-schoolers to decorate ‘Severus the Snake’ with coloured tissue paper- it now looks great on the wall! Following this, we played with bricks and drew some pictures for the children to colour. They coloured dogs, cats, buses, a roman centurion and a bust of Shakespeare. Mid-morning we were kindly taken by the Chief Monk to carry out Maithithri meditation in the beautiful temple. This is a meditation on friendship where we were led to think about the well-being of friends, enemies, parents, teachers and siblings. I really enjoyed my first real taste of Buddhist meditation and hope to meditating in the future. It was great to take some time out of our busy schedule to clear our heads. In the afternoon, I helped direct ‘Macavity the Mystery Cat’ with three girls. We worked on cat-like movements and voice projection. It sounds great and we look forward to presenting a polished performance in our Cultural Show. In the evening we all sat down to rehearse the final scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream which is coming together very nicely!
